Surrender Your Heart

 by Rick Copeland

Surrender your heart
it is not your own
it belongs to the Divine, the Creator
who spins light into galaxies and mud, tectonic plates and effortless delicate DNA,
who binds the fragile wondrous beating hearts of mother and child

Surrender your heart
it is not your own
it belongs to the coming host of souls who are this moment conceived
by meeting of egg and sperm;
give it wholly unto them now,
that the spark of the Divine may alight in their fragile spirits
and quicken a planetary love bloom

Surrender your heart
it is not your own
it is the celestial loom that weaves nascent love-essence into miraculous threads of willingness, release and freedom that fly with abandon and purpose to cloak anguished souls with courage and hope and a glimpse of eternity

Surrender your heart
it is not your own
it is a cog in the universal factory of grace, a relay station of forgiveness, mercy
an expanding/contracting extruder of God’s sweet eternal kindness
reverberating, reverberating

Surrender your heart
it is not your own
it is the plea from beyond
to let your self fall away
to allow, for a millisecond, a shard of emptiness, of loneliness, of yearning
to tumble and shatter
brilliantly flash-scatter-sparkling blessings of recognition
to kin, through space and time
